Homemade Brown and Serve Rolls
These rolls are designed to mimic store-bought brown and serve rolls, offering the convenience of finishing the baking process just before serving. They have a soft interior with a light golden crust, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk about 110°F
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 1 egg beaten
- Additional flour for dusting
Instructions
- Dough Preparation: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm milk, melted butter, and beaten egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Kneading: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shaping Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Second Rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Partial Baking: Preheat the oven to 275°F (135°C). Bake the rolls for 20 minutes. They should be just set but not fully browned.
- Cooling and Storing: Remove from the oven, let cool, and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
- Final Baking: When ready to serve, bake the rolls at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
